If sculpture and books were to have a baby, it would be the book arts. But like babies, Book Arts is a hugely diverse field, fairly new in the art world, and one that is constantly evolving. Students in Art 335 Book Arts will showcase some of their inventive structures from the past semester. Book structures like flagbooks, tunnel books, books with pivoting panels, storage books, and more. Discover how content and structure dovetail within this art form and the connection between text and image and creative writing.

Found Object Sculptures and Other Forms

Found object sculptures are small, little works of art created from materials found in your recycle, trash, junk drawer, or otherwise. Adhesives, tapes, and wire can be used to put materials together, but otherwise the materials MUST BE FOUND. Guided by a prompt, Intro to Sculpture students make one of these sculptures nearly every week in the semester. View selections from these weekly found objects plus other works that explore the four traditional ways of creating sculpture (carving, casting, modeling, assembling). This open studio may spill out into the hallway area.

Seven Deadly Sins: Reduction Cut Prints from Art 335, Printmaking

A reduction cut print is a technique for creating a multi-color image in a single print while only using one block. You carve one layer, print it across your edition, carve some more, print again on the same pages, and repeat as needed. With precision and excellence, one can achieve exact registration of the different colors. Students in Art 335 Printmaking explored this technique during the Fall 2023 semester through the theme Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Pride.
